Water in a dryer can come from moisture already moving through the exhaust system or from water entering it outside. During a normal cycle, the dryer turns water in wet clothes into vapor and pushes that warm, damp air through the duct to the exterior vent. If the air cools before it exits, some vapor can condense and travel back toward the drum or lint area.
